The internal conflicts within the National Action Party (PAN) in Mexico City, which intensified in 2024, are being reduced at the same time as Vice President Luisa Gutiérrez Ureña attempts to increase the party's presence on the streets. This week, the local president led a series of tours through the capital's neighborhoods alongside the party's national leader, Jorge Romero, with the aim of listening to citizen demands and beginning to formulate proposals and solutions for upcoming elections. "We want to listen, we want to know how the citizenry feels, and tell them that in PAN there is a government project that offers solutions," stated the former local deputy. Meanwhile, despite everyone responding to Jorge Romero, there is no longer unanimity among them, and there are frictions and clashes over candidacies and power positions in the capital. One of the most recent examples occurred in the election of the presidencies of its local committees, where leaders clashed over positions that could influence the 2027 candidacies. Another was in Cuauhtémoc, where Kevin Ríos was finally appointed, with the support of Andrés Atayde and the opposition of Luis Mendoza. Facing the 2027 elections, the PAN's leadership in Mexico City has activated a series of mechanisms to, on one hand, maintain the opposition's control of five mayoralties, and on the other, attempt to advance in others to strengthen itself against the government of Clara Brugada, with the final goal of 2030. "We are defending the homeland, freedom, and the family," she added, urging all PAN figures to "offer more health, public security, access to security, and respect for human dignity." This initiative is accompanied, at the same time, by the postponement of internal disputes. Otherwise, they warn, the same thing that happened in 2024 will occur: a setback with the loss of mayoralties and a clear and resounding defeat against the guinda party (the color of MORENA).
